Check out Pollença!
Local poet Costa i Llobera masterfully transmitted the beauty and classical resonance of “The Pine Tree of Formentor”, which is still revered at the Literary Conversations held since 1959 at the present-day Hotel Barceló Formentor. In a similar vein, the town’s commitment to the world of culture remains firm to this very day. Tales that are within your reach to listen to, feel, experience or share with whoever you may wish. Pollença, a place with stories to tell
Picture a place where verdant pine-clad mountains descend to meet an intensely turquoise sea. A town where stunning backdrops, a fascinating past and friendly locals are part of everything you do.
Imagine for a moment the authentic character of a dynamic town, with lively and creative people making Pollença a place with a full of content.
The town, with its old quarter, is the hub of social activities. Outlying resorts round off the destination: the Port, with excellent accommodation and tourist amenities, and Cala Sant Vicenç, with some of the best hotels on the island.
And, of course, the Formentor peninsula. Its famous hotel, its viewing point or its lighthouse have been sources of inspiration for politicians, artists and thinkers alike. Now you can discover them too.
Welcome to Pollença, a place with stories to tell.

Plaça Vella and Can Llobera
Focal point of Pollença until the mid-nineteenth century, this square is home to one of the most traditional festivals in Pollença and also the Can Llobera manor house
The Plaça Vella ('Old Square'), which is part of the original old quarter dating back to medieval times, was the heart of Pollença until the construction of the Plaça Major in 1857. In fact, its present name is relatively modern, as it was formerly known as Plaça Major or Plaça Reial.
Here you can see the side of a parish church, known as the 'women's wall', and a manor house called Can Llobera belonging to one of the town's most prominent families, although it didn't take on this name until the late eighteenth century, despite being in existence since 1515. It is currently owned by Pollença Town Council.
For as long as can be remembered, Plaça Vella has hosted one of the most typical Pollença traditions, known as the 'Pi de Sant Antoni' (The Pine of Saint Anthony), when on 17th January each year thousands of people head to the outskirts of Pollença to look for a 20-metre-plus recently-trimmed pine tree and then bring it on a cart to the town centre. Young people try to climb up the trunk of this tree, which is smeared with soap to make things more difficult. The daredevil who makes it to the top of the pine tree finds a basket containing a rooster, the symbol of Pollença, as a public recognition of his feat.
